Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on February 2, 1977. Latino pop
giant Shakira is 5'2" brown eyed , brown hair with gifted talent.Shakira was
born in a poor family. Her mother named Nidia del Carmen Ripoll was from
Colombia and her father named William Mebarak Chadid was from Lebanon.Being the
youngest daughter in the family, she inherits a combination of Latin and Arabic
blood from her parents.Her father was a writer and she was deeply inspired by
her father. She started writing songs at the age of only 8.When she was 10 she
started taking part in several local and nationwide contests. She was devoted to
music since her childhood.
At the age of 13 she left her family and went to Botoga to
become a model but she signed a contract deal with Sony music International. At
the age of 14 her first music album ' Magia' was released . Magia contained
songs completely written by Shakira herself between the age of 8 and 13. In 1993
her second album came to masses that received the same response as that of first
album. Shakira was dissatisfied with album;s results and thus she tried her luck
in acting. She appeared in a Colombian show " El Oasis " in 1994. She
couldn't make it as an actress and returned to music again.After returning to
music she came up with her third album "
Pies Descalzos " . She worked hard for this album and composed music with more
rock n roll and with Arabic touch. Fortunately this album become a hit and sold
almost 4 millions copies worldwide. This special album shockingly became
number one in eight different countries with its hit single "Esto Aqui"
producing platinum in U.S. With in few
months Shakira was an international figure.
'Pies Descalzos' was so liked by public that it sold more than 1 million copies
in Brazil alone. spotlighting her thoughts on music, she finally left "El
Oasis" in 1997. In order to develop her career as a singer. Shakira
also recorded remixes for her Brazilian fans in Portuguese. Her next record was Dónde Están Los Ladrones?
(1998)—which means as "Where are the thieves?" It became a phenomenal album when
it was launched in 1998. With the hit single "Ojos Asi," this album
reached number one spot on U.S Billboard's Latin Chart for 11 weeks.With the
success of this album Shakira rapidly bacame a famous singer worldwide and has
been observe for her exclusivity in involving belly dancing and Arabic rhythms.
In the same year, she was honored World Music Awards as Latin Female Artist of
The Year. Her next ambition is to capture
the English market. She started leaning English. By the year 2002 her
next album "Laundry Service" was released with hit singles "Whenever, Wherever"
and "Underneath Your Clothes" . This album soon become one of the top albums of
the year with almost ten millions albums sold. Later on, she roam around the
world to hold a tour called "The Tour of the Mongoose." The DVD version of the
tour was launched on March 30, 2004 with title "Grandes Exitos Shakira: Live &
Off the Record," together with a CD consisting of 10 songs taken from the same
tour. Shakira's talent is indeed exclusive, extraordinary and exciting, just as
